What to Expect
Treatment Style
Dr. van de Wall practices using a hybrid style, combining chiropractic techniques with treatments from other related fields. Each treatment depends on the person and their issue, but it is usually a combination of adjustments, muscle treatment, and exercise prescription.
Hybrid practice styles allow for:
Treatment of more than one tissue type (joint and muscle for ex.)
Added benefit by combining treatment techniques
More technique options available to suit the person and their issue
Dr. van de Wall’s treatment philosophy is rooted in patient-centered and evidence-based care models. This means that your goals and concerns are prioritized, your treatment plan is customized to what is realistic for you, and treatments offered have a backing of research showing they are effective for your issue. Dr. van de Wall is also passionate about patient education and self-management, so anyone with a desire to help by taking things into their own hands is given the tools and knowledge to do so.
Your First Visit
Your first visit starts with a detailed history of your issue, and a review of your treatment goals and previous experiences.
Next, a physical exam is performed to diagnose the problem. This includes diagnostic tests focused on your issue to rule in or rule out other conditions, as well as a full body function assessment looking at things like posture, flexibility, and strength. The goal is to diagnose where your pain is coming from, but also try to understand how your body functions and what may be at the root of that symptom.
Next, we review treatment options and treatment begins based on your diagnosis and treatment preferences. This usually includes a combination of adjustments, muscle treatments, and exercise prescription. What type of adjustment, muscle treatment, or exercise depends on your specific issue, treatment preferences, and general health. If there is any issue outside of Dr. van de Wall’s scope of practice, he will refer you to the appropriate provider for further assessment.
At the end of the session any relevant home care is provided, a possible treatment plan is reviewed (if needed), and we talk about what your next best steps are.
